On June 16, 2023, the Department of Homeland Security ended the Form I-9 temporary
flexibilities. Employers must now complete an in-person inspection of documents. This must be
completed by August 30, 2023. For those employers who used the remote inspection allowed
during the temporary flexibilities, you will want to assess the number of I-9s that will need a
visual inspection, particularly if your business hired a large number of employees during this
period, to ensure you have an adequate amount of staff trained to do the inspections.
