EEOC Updates

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has just published its Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Report and New Data Dashboard for national EEOC statistics. The update signifies that in FY 2023, the EEOC filed 143 lawsuits on merit. According to the EEOC this represents an increase of more than 50% as compared to the prior year (Please be aware that some suits have multiple allegations). Retaliation remains the highest at 39.2%, followed by sex at 35%, and disability at 34.3%.

In FY 2023, the EEOC resolved 14 suits categorized as systemic which are defined by the EEOC as “a pattern or practice, policy and/or class cases where the discrimination has a broad impact on an industry, profession, company or geographic location.” The EEOC states that it has recovered over $22.6 million on 98 merit suits that were resolved and $11.7 million on the 14 resolved systemic suits. Information on selected cases which have been resolved in the last few years can be found on the data dashboard.
