HB 11, the Paid Family Leave Act went to the Senate and Finance Committee under a different name (WELCOME CHILD AND FAMILY WELLNESS LEAVE ACT) and with amendments, and where it failed on March 15th by a vote of 8-3. Funding is a potential issue. It is unclear whether this can be resurrected next year but supporters indicated a desire to continue in their efforts in the future.

HB 230, Cannabis Testing Certain Employees has passed the House of Representatives and has been sent to the Senate Judiciary committee (SJC) last week. It clarifies when drug testing is allowed for cannabis under the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act, provides protections against adverse employment actions, makes some evidence inadmissible in civil cases, and includes requirements and guidelines for determining impairment. The Bill does note that other laws may take precedence such as federal law. Therefore, those of you covered under federal contracts and grants or federal motor carrier regulations should not have to comply to this act, if passed, in relation to those employees that are covered under those regulations and rules.

There still appears to be no updates on HB 246 regarding Minimum Wage. The legislative website shows no movement since February.
