Employee Relations & Documentation
Hypothetical Question: How can I ensure that my documentation on employee issues is strong?
Answer: It is appropriate and helpful to have one-on-one conversations when providing lower-level feedback regarding non-serious issues before moving to more formal feedback. However, creating documentation when providing even lower-level feedback is important in the event issues continue or escalate. Capturing the discussion in an email afterward is a helpful way to not only create documentation, if needed in the future, but also to eliminate possible confusion over the issues and expectations discussed in the meeting.
